What does it mean?
A confidence interval estimates a population parameter under stated assumptions. At a 95% confidence level, about 95% of intervals constructed by the same method over repeated samples would contain the true parameter in the long run.
Think through an example.
An everyday example
An estimated proportion of 51% with an approximate margin of error of ±3 percentage points gives an interval of 48%–54%. It does not establish that the population proportion exceeds 50%.
